WhatsApp for Restaurants in Oman: Reservations, Direct Orders, Loyalty and the Ramadan Season
In Oman, talabat brings the orders, but it also keeps the customer. WhatsApp is how a Muscat café, a Salalah seafood restaurant or a Sohar cloud kitchen builds a list of regulars it can actually talk to.
Short answer: Omani restaurants use WhatsApp for four jobs: reservation confirmations and reminders, direct orders for pickup or your own delivery, order-ready and on-the-way updates, and offers to regulars who opted in. The first three are utility templates at $0.0247 per message to a +968 number (about OMR 0.0095); offers are marketing at $0.0341 (about OMR 0.0131). talabat serves cities from Muscat and Seeb to Salalah, Sohar, Nizwa and Sur, and Omani-founded Akeed was bought by Qatar's Snoonu in 2022, so delivery apps will stay part of your mix; WhatsApp is for the customers who already know you. Plan Ramadan early: it is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, subject to moon sighting. A three-branch Muscat restaurant pays Meta about $506 (OMR 195) a month. QuickWA starts at $5/month, connects to Foodics, and adds 0% markup to Meta's fees.
Delivery apps in Oman, and where WhatsApp fits
Start with what you cannot change. When we checked talabat's Oman site on 26 October 2026, it listed the cities it serves in Oman, including Muscat, Seeb, Bawshar, Muttrah, Amerat, Barka, Sohar, Rustaq, Buraimi, Nizwa, Bahla, Ibri, Ibra, Sur, Jalan, Sinaw, Al Suwayq, Al Khabourah and Salalah. Omani-founded Akeed was acquired by Qatar's Snoonu in May 2022; at the time Akeed described itself as having more than 1,000 restaurants and grocery stores. We could not find an official, current market-share figure for either app in Oman, so we will not quote one.
The apps solve discovery and delivery. What they do not give you is a direct relationship: the customer is the app's customer, and you cannot market to them using the order data. Oman's amended data protection law requires explicit consent before any marketing, so a phone number that reached you only to fulfil an app order is not a marketing list. Our Oman marketing rules guide explains why.
So the sensible split for most Omani restaurants:
| Channel | Best for | Who owns the customer | Your cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delivery apps (talabat and others) | New customers, wide delivery areas, late-night orders | The app | Commission and fees set in your partner contract |
| WhatsApp direct orders | Regulars, office lunches, family orders, catering, pickup | You, with consent | Meta's per-message fees plus your own delivery cost |
| WhatsApp reservations | Dine-in, iftar tables, private rooms, events | You | Meta's per-message fees |
| Click-to-WhatsApp ads | Launching a branch or a seasonal menu | You, once they opt in | Ad spend; Meta's free entry-point window covers your replies for up to 7 days |
Commission rates differ by contract, so check yours rather than relying on figures from blogs. Once you know your number, compare it with roughly two to five utility messages per direct order at $0.0247 each, and the arithmetic usually favours moving your regulars to direct ordering.
Reservations, from a Tuesday lunch to a Ramadan iftar
Booking confirmations and reminders are utility messages, because they relate to a table the guest asked for. Keep them short and practical.
تم تأكيد حجزك في {{1}} لعدد {{2}} أشخاص يوم {{3}} الساعة {{4}}. لو تغيّرت خططك اضغط «تعديل الحجز».
Your table at {{1}} for {{2}} guests is confirmed for {{3}} at {{4}}. If your plans change, tap Change booking.
- Ask for the occasion at booking, such as a birthday, a family gathering or business guests, and pass it to the floor team in an internal note.
- Family sections and private rooms: if you have them, put the choice in the booking flow so nobody has to phone.
- Remind on the day, a few hours before, with Confirm and Cancel buttons. A cancelled table you know about is a table you can resell.
QuickWA's appointment booking handles slots and reminders, and its no-code chatbot or WhatsApp Flows can collect date, time, party size and seating in one tidy form.
Direct ordering on WhatsApp
For a restaurant, a direct order has three moments worth a message: received, ready (or on the way), and a short follow-up.
Taking the order
A WhatsApp catalog with your best-sellers, sizes and add-ons lets customers order without a phone call. Keep it short; nobody scrolls through 140 items in a chat. Large orders, such as office lunches, a family majlis or a wedding, are better handled by a person in the shared inbox, with the catalog for reference.
Payment
Many customers will pay cash or by card on pickup. For delivery and catering deposits, a payment link is cleaner. QuickWA creates payment links through PayTabs, Telr or Stripe; PayTabs says OmanNet debit cards are enabled for its merchants in Oman, which matters because local debit cards are most of the cards Omanis carry.
Ready, on the way, and feedback
- "Your order is ready for pickup" or "Your order is on the way, the driver is {{1}}": utility.
- Feedback: Meta's guidelines accept a survey as utility when it relates to a specific order or interaction. "How was your order {{1}} today?" qualifies. "Rate us and get 10% off your next order" is marketing.
If the customer has just written to you, reply with free-form messages instead of templates. Those are service messages, and the first 1,000 each month are free per number.
Foodics and your point of sale
Foodics is a Saudi restaurant management and POS platform. When we checked its website, it listed Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Kuwait and Jordan, not Oman. If your group runs Foodics, for example because you also operate in Saudi Arabia or the UAE, QuickWA's Foodics integration can turn order events into WhatsApp updates for the customer. If you run another POS in Oman, QuickWA's developer API, signed webhooks, Google Sheets and Zapier connections let your developer trigger the same templates.
Loyalty that does not feel like spam
A loyalty list on WhatsApp is valuable precisely because it is small and personal. Build it with consent, not by importing every number you have.
- Ask at the right moment: when a guest pays, books, or picks up an order. "Would you like our weekly specials on WhatsApp? Reply YES. Send STOP any time to stop."
- Segment. The office crowd in Al Khuwair wants lunch deals at 11 AM; families in Al Mouj want the weekend brunch. QuickWA's contacts and segments let you send each group what fits.
- Fewer, better messages. Two good messages a month beat four average ones, and every block or report counts against your quality rating.
- Respect the clock. The TRA's August 2026 promotional-message rules set 8 AM to 9 PM for promotional calls and messages. They are written for telecom traffic, but following them on WhatsApp is sensible. Set the window in QuickWA's Settings and scheduled offers wait until it opens.
- Automatic opt-outs. QuickWA turns STOP replies into opt-outs across broadcasts and journeys, and a guest who stops marketing still gets their booking confirmations.
Ramadan, Eid and Oman's food seasons
Ramadan 2027
Astronomical forecasts reported by Gulf News expect Ramadan 2027 to begin around 8 February, with Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March, both subject to moon sighting. For many restaurants it is a peak month for bookings and catering, and it runs on a different clock.
- Submit your Ramadan templates by mid-January. Meta says a template decision can take up to 24 hours, but leave room for a rejection and a fix. Create them in Arabic and English.
- Iftar booking campaign to opted-in regulars in the last days of Sha'ban, then reminders on the day as utility messages.
- Send in late morning or after iftar. Avoid the hour before sunset, when nobody is reading offers and your kitchen is at full stretch.
- Suhoor menus suit cafés and late-opening restaurants. Keep messages after iftar and before about 9 PM if you follow the TRA's hours.
- Eid orders and catering: collect deposits by payment link and confirm pickup times by utility template.
The rest of the year
National Day on 20 November, Muscat Nights in January and the Khareef season in Dhofar each change who is eating out. For a Salalah restaurant, Khareef is a tourist season, and most visitors will not be on your list yet: Click-to-WhatsApp ads and walk-in QR codes work better than broadcasts. Our Oman campaign calendar has the dates and sending times.
A month of Meta fees for a three-branch Muscat restaurant
Take a restaurant group with branches in Qurum, Al Khuwair and Seeb on one WhatsApp number. In a normal month it takes 1,800 reservations (confirmation and reminder), 2,000 direct orders (received and ready or on the way), sends 1,000 order-feedback messages, two offers to 2,500 opted-in regulars, and its team sends 6,000 free-form replies.
| Line | Arithmetic | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| Reservation confirmations and reminders | 1,800 × 2 = 3,600 × $0.0247 | $88.92 |
| Direct-order updates | 2,000 × 2 = 4,000 × $0.0247 | $98.80 |
| Order feedback (utility, order-specific) | 1,000 × $0.0247 | $24.70 |
| Two offers to regulars (marketing) | 2 × 2,500 = 5,000 × $0.0341 | $170.50 |
| Team replies | (6,000 − 1,000 free) × $0.0247 | $123.50 |
| Total paid to Meta | $506.42 ≈ OMR 194.72 |
OMR at the peg of about 0.3845 per dollar. The two updates on each direct order cost $0.0494 together, about OMR 0.019. In Ramadan, three iftar and Eid campaigns to the same 2,500 regulars would add 7,500 × $0.0341 = $255.75 on top of the usual offers; replace the normal offers rather than adding to them and the month stays close to budget. Our Oman pricing guide covers the full rate card.

Frequently asked questions
Can I message customers who ordered from my restaurant on talabat? +
Not for marketing. Their number reached you to fulfil a delivery app order, and Oman's amended data protection law requires explicit consent before any marketing. Invite guests to join your WhatsApp list when they visit, book or pick up, and record their yes.
Is a reservation reminder a utility message? +
Yes, when it only confirms or reminds about a table the guest booked. To a +968 number it costs $0.0247 (about OMR 0.0095). Add an offer and it becomes marketing at $0.0341.
Does Foodics work in Oman? +
When we checked, Foodics' website listed Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Kuwait and Jordan, not Oman. If your group uses Foodics, QuickWA's Foodics integration can send order updates on WhatsApp; other POS systems can connect through QuickWA's API and webhooks.
When should a restaurant in Oman send Ramadan offers? +
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, subject to moon sighting. Submit templates by mid-January, send iftar booking offers to opted-in regulars before Ramadan starts, and send in late morning or after iftar rather than just before sunset.
Are order feedback messages utility or marketing? +
Meta accepts a survey as utility when it relates to a specific order or interaction, such as asking about today's order. A generic review request or one that offers a discount is marketing.
How much does QuickWA cost for a restaurant in Oman? +
Plans start at $5/month, billed in USD, with no setup fee and no per-seat fees, so every branch can use the shared inbox. Meta bills your own WhatsApp account for messages and QuickWA adds 0% markup.
