WhatsApp for Restaurants in Bahrain: Reservations, Direct Orders, Loyalty and Ramadan
Bahrain's restaurants feed residents all week and Saudi visitors every weekend, and most of them already run half their business through WhatsApp. This guide shows how to make that a system rather than a busy phone at the cashier.
Short answer: a Bahraini restaurant uses WhatsApp for reservation confirmations and reminders, direct orders from regulars (alongside, not instead of, talabat, Keeta and Jahez), order-ready and out-for-delivery updates, and opted-in offers for weekends, Ramadan and Eid. Confirmations and order updates are utility messages at $0.0091 to a Bahraini number, about BHD 0.0034. Offers are marketing at $0.0392, but Saudi weekend guests on +966 numbers cost $0.0576 each. An Adliya café-restaurant with 1,400 bookings and 2,200 direct orders a month pays Meta about BHD 177. QuickWA starts at $5/month with 0% markup on Meta's fees.
How Bahrain eats: residents, delivery apps and the causeway weekend
Three things shape restaurant messaging in Bahrain. First, the delivery apps are strong. talabat runs a full Bahrain service covering restaurants, groceries, its tMart quick-commerce store, pharmacy and flowers. Keeta, the international brand of China's Meituan, held its official Bahrain launch in Manama in January 2026, attended by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, after launches in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar. Jahez began trial operations in Bahrain in May 2022, according to its bourse filing reported by Argaam.
Second, the weekend is regional. Skift, citing Information & eGovernment Authority data, reports that Saudi visitors were about 86% of Bahrain's roughly 14.9 million international visitors in 2024, many of them driving over the King Fahd Causeway for the weekend. A restaurant in Adliya, Block 338, Seef or Amwaj may serve as many Saudi families on Thursday night and Friday as Bahraini residents all week.
Third, Bahrain is small enough that regulars matter. A café that knows its 2,000 best customers by name and can reach them directly is far less dependent on any one app.
Direct WhatsApp orders and the delivery apps: use both
Delivery apps bring customers you could not reach yourself. WhatsApp keeps the ones you already have. Commission terms with each app are negotiated privately, so check your own contracts rather than any published figure; the point here is what each channel does well.
| Channel | Best for | Who owns the customer contact | What WhatsApp adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| talabat | Reach across Bahrain, discovery by new customers, its own rider fleet | The platform | Nothing during the order; use packaging inserts to invite customers to your WhatsApp for reservations and events |
| Keeta (since January 2026) | New-customer promotions in its launch phase | The platform | Same as above |
| Jahez | A further customer base; check its current coverage of your area | The platform | Same as above |
| Direct WhatsApp orders | Regulars, office lunch orders, large family and majlis orders, catering | You | Menu catalogue, payment link, order-ready updates, reorder in one message |
| Reservations by WhatsApp | Dine-in, weekend tables, private rooms, Ramadan iftar sittings | You | Confirmation, reminder, deposit link, waitlist |
What a direct order looks like
The customer messages "the usual for 4 people, delivered to Saar at 8". The agent, or a no-code chatbot, replies with the WhatsApp catalog or a short menu, confirms the order and the total in BHD, and sends a payment link or notes cash on delivery. QuickWA's catalog and payment links work with PayTabs, Telr or Stripe; what appears on the payment page depends on your gateway account. Two utility updates follow: "being prepared" and "out for delivery".
EN: Thank you, {{1}}. Your order {{2}} is confirmed: {{3}}. Total BHD {{4}}. Expected delivery to {{5}} by {{6}}. We will message you when it leaves the kitchen.
Our general guide to WhatsApp for restaurants covers menu bots in more depth. The Bahrain-specific advice is to ask for the block and road number (and building or villa) in the first exchange, and to accept a WhatsApp location pin, because that is how Bahraini addresses actually work.
Foodics and POS integration
QuickWA integrates with Foodics, the restaurant POS widely used in Saudi Arabia. On 26 October 2026 Foodics' own website listed its markets as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Kuwait and Jordan, not Bahrain, so a Bahraini restaurant should confirm with Foodics whether it supports its outlets before planning around that integration. Groups that run Foodics in their Saudi or Kuwaiti branches can use it there. For other POS systems, QuickWA's developer API, signed webhooks, Zapier or Google Sheets can pass orders in and out.
Reservations: confirm, remind, fill the gaps
For dine-in restaurants, reservations are the highest-value WhatsApp flow. A WhatsApp Flow can take the booking inside the chat (date, time, guests, seating preference, occasion), send a utility confirmation, and remind the guest on the day with buttons to confirm or cancel. A cancellation at 5 pm frees a table that a waitlisted guest can take by 8 pm.
- Weekend rule: send Thursday and Friday reminders earlier in the day; Saudi guests are often already driving by mid-afternoon.
- Deposits for large tables: a payment link in the confirmation for groups of eight or more, or for Ramadan iftar sittings, cuts no-shows on the nights that matter most.
- Private rooms and majlis bookings are best handed to a person after the bot collects the basics; route them to the events manager in the shared inbox.
Loyalty without spam
WhatsApp loyalty in Bahrain works best when it is personal and rare. Two or three marketing messages a month to opted-in regulars is plenty. Segment by what people actually buy: the breakfast crowd, the weekend family table, the office lunch group, the dessert-only customers. QuickWA's contacts, segments and A/B tests let you send the karak-and-breakfast offer only to the people who come before 10 am.
Two rules keep loyalty messages out of trouble. Get opt-in for offers separately from order and booking updates, and honour STOP immediately; QuickWA's automatic opt-outs do that and keep the person suppressed when you re-import your POS list. On 20 October 2026 the News of Bahrain reported that the Personal Data Protection Authority had warned businesses they need clear, specific consent before using personal information for direct marketing; our Bahrain marketing rules guide explains the law.
Ramadan, iftar and suhoor
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on about 8 February 2027, subject to moon sighting, with Eid al-Fitr around 9 or 10 March. For Bahraini restaurants it is the busiest and most time-sensitive month of the year. Our Bahrain campaign calendar covers the full year; this is the restaurant-specific plan.
| When | Message | Category | Sending tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2–3 weeks before Ramadan | Iftar and ghabga packages, group bookings, corporate iftar menus | Marketing | Send to opted-in regulars and past corporate clients first |
| Before the first iftar | Ramadan opening hours and how to order for iftar delivery | Marketing (a general announcement is not specific to one customer) | Afternoon, well before Maghrib |
| Each booking | Iftar table confirmation with arrival time before sunset | Utility | Immediately after booking |
| Iftar day | Reminder with exact table time | Utility | Late morning, not close to Maghrib |
| Iftar delivery orders | "Your iftar order will arrive by {{1}}" | Utility | Promise a time before sunset you can keep |
| Late evening | Suhoor menu and order cut-off | Marketing | After Taraweeh; respect your sending window |
| Mid-Ramadan | Gergaoon trays and family sweet boxes | Marketing | Gergaoon night is mid-month; send two or three days ahead |
| Last 10 days | Eid sweets, Eid brunch bookings and pre-orders | Marketing | Give a clear order cut-off before the Eid holiday |
During Ramadan, turn the daytime sending window around: most customers are not thinking about food at 11 am, but they are reading messages at 3 pm and again after Taraweeh. QuickWA's sending window in Settings can be changed for the month, and scheduled broadcasts wait until the window reopens.
A Bahraini restaurant's month, priced
Take a café-restaurant in Adliya with 1,400 reservations and 2,200 direct WhatsApp orders a month. Each reservation gets a confirmation and a reminder; each order gets a confirmation and an out-for-delivery update. It runs two offers a month to 3,000 opted-in Bahraini numbers and two weekend offers to 1,000 opted-in Saudi (+966) guests. Customers send 7,000 messages that need replies, mostly from Bahraini numbers.
| Line | Messages | Category | Meta's charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reservation confirmations + reminders | 2,800 | Utility | 2,800 × $0.0091 = $25.48 |
| Order confirmations + delivery updates | 4,400 | Utility | 4,400 × $0.0091 = $40.04 |
| Two offers to 3,000 Bahraini numbers | 6,000 | Marketing (+973) | 6,000 × $0.0392 = $235.20 |
| Two weekend offers to 1,000 Saudi numbers | 2,000 | Marketing (+966) | 2,000 × $0.0576 = $115.20 |
| Replies to customers | 7,000 (6,000 billed after the free 1,000) | Service | 6,000 × $0.0091 = $54.60 |
| Total | 22,200 sent | $470.52 ≈ BHD 176.916 |
USD rates are Meta's per delivered message; BHD at the Central Bank of Bahrain's 0.376 peg. Service messages to Saudi numbers are charged at Saudi rates, so a Saudi-heavy inbox would cost a little more than shown. Full rates are in our Bahrain pricing guide.
What the numbers say
Operations are cheap. All 7,200 reservation and order updates cost $65.52, about BHD 24.64. That is about 3.4 fils per message.
Saudi guests are worth it, but price them separately. The 2,000 Saudi messages cost $115.20; the same messages to Bahraini numbers would cost $78.40. The extra $36.80 is the price of reaching weekend visitors directly. One Click-to-WhatsApp ad aimed at the Eastern Province can be cheaper still: conversations it opens are free for up to 7 days in Meta's entry-point window.
Replies are now a real line. Since 1 October 2026 service replies are free only for the first 1,000 per number each month. 6,000 billed replies cost $54.60, about BHD 20.53. A no-code chatbot that answers "what time do you close?" and "do you have parking?" reduces the replies your staff type, though each bot reply is still a service message.
Setting up QuickWA for a Bahraini restaurant
- Keep your number. Coexistence lets the cashier keep using the WhatsApp Business app on the restaurant's number while the team works from the shared inbox. Some app features, such as broadcast lists and labels, move to QuickWA's inbox equivalents.
- Shared inbox and Android app. The floor manager can confirm bookings from the Android app on a busy Thursday night without standing at the cashier's phone.
- Arabic and English templates. Approve both versions of every template; Bahraini, Saudi and expatriate guests will all write to you. The AI bot replies in the customer's language, Arabic or English.
- Click-to-WhatsApp ads. Track which ads bring bookings, and use the free entry-point window to confirm them at no Meta cost.
QuickWA plans start at $5/month, billed in USD, with $0 setup and no per-seat fees. AI, automation, calling and integrations are included from Pro. Meta bills its message fees to your own WhatsApp Business Account at its published rates, and QuickWA adds 0% markup. Every plan, feature and message limit is shown after sign-up.
