WhatsApp for Restaurants in Qatar: Reservations, Direct Orders, Loyalty and the Ramadan Rush
Delivery apps bring the orders; WhatsApp is where a Doha restaurant keeps the regulars. Here is how to run bookings, direct orders and Ramadan without spamming anyone or paying more than you need.
Short answer: Doha restaurants should use WhatsApp for table reservations and reminders, direct ordering and pick-up for customers who already know you, a loyalty list of guests who opted in, and the Ramadan iftar and ghabga season. Booking confirmations and order updates are utility messages at $0.012 to a +974 number; offers are marketing at $0.0341. A two-branch restaurant in our example pays Meta about USD 324.10 (QR 1,179.72) in a normal month and about USD 589.20 (QR 2,144.69) in Ramadan. Keep using talabat, Snoonu or Keeta for reach; just do not market to their customers' numbers without the guest's own consent.
The delivery landscape in Qatar in 2026
Any WhatsApp plan for a Qatari restaurant starts from the apps your customers already use. The market has moved a lot in the last 18 months:
| Platform | Status in Qatar | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| talabat | The long-standing leader, owned by Delivery Hero. In September 2025 MoCI ordered a one-week closure of its Qatar services company (Administrative Decision No. 29/2025) over misleading product information and complaints; Gulf News reported on 15 September 2025 that it had fully resumed operations | Still the biggest source of orders for most restaurants; a reminder that MoCI enforces consumer law on price and product display |
| Snoonu | Qatari super app founded in 2019, covering food, groceries and courier services | Strong local alternative; also offers logistics to small businesses |
| Keeta | Meituan's delivery brand, launched in Doha in August 2025 with QR 200 vouchers and free delivery for new users | Aggressive newcomer; expect promotions that pull price-sensitive customers |
| Rafeeq | Local platform listed in Qatar delivery-app guides, with a points programme | Another channel for reach |
| Deliveroo | DoorDash announced in February 2026 that Deliveroo would stop operating in Qatar on 4 March 2026 | Restaurants that relied on it had to move those orders to other channels |
The apps are good at finding new customers. What they do not give you is a relationship: the guest belongs to the platform. A customer's number that reached you only to deliver a talabat or Keeta order was collected for that delivery, so using it for your own promotions needs that customer's own consent first, under Qatar's data privacy law and under Meta's opt-in rule. WhatsApp is how you build a list that is genuinely yours, one guest at a time: a QR code on the table, a line on the receipt bag, a booking that ends with "Would you like our weekly menu on WhatsApp? Yes / No".
Reservations
A booking flow that fits how Doha dines
Restaurants in places like Lusail Boulevard, Msheireb or Porto Arabia at The Pearl often juggle terrace and indoor seating in the cooler months, and many guests ask for a family area. A WhatsApp Flow or QuickWA's appointment booking can ask for date, time, party size, seating (indoor, terrace, family area) and occasion in one form, in Arabic or English, then confirm instantly:
تم تأكيد حجزك في {{1}} يوم {{2}} الساعة {{3}} لـ {{4}} أشخاص. للتعديل اضغط "تغيير الحجز".
Your table at {{1}} is confirmed for {{2}} at {{3}}, {{4}} guests. Tap "Change booking" to amend.
Send a reminder on the day with a map pin and parking note (valet at a hotel restaurant, Msheireb's car parks, or the nearest Lusail tram stop). Ask guests to tap "Cancel" if plans change; a released table on a Thursday night is worth more than any campaign.
Large groups and events
Corporate dinners, birthday set menus and majlis bookings usually need a deposit. Send the menu PDF and a payment link in the chat (QuickWA supports PayTabs, Telr and Stripe links where your merchant account allows), and confirm with a utility template when the deposit arrives.
Direct ordering on WhatsApp
For guests who already know you, ordering in the chat is simpler than an app and saves you the platform commission on that order. Typical set-ups:
- Catalog + cart: your menu in the WhatsApp catalog; the guest adds items and sends the cart; the kitchen confirms with the total and a payment link or "cash on pick-up".
- Pick-up and drive-by: "Your order is ready, park at bay 3 and reply HERE" works well for cafés and karak spots.
- Own drivers: a utility update when the driver leaves, with the expected time.
- Office lunches: a weekly menu to an opted-in company group list on Sunday morning, orders collected until 11:00.
Be careful with prices. The talabat closure showed MoCI acting on product information that did not match what consumers were charged. Your WhatsApp menu and your in-store and app prices should agree, and any "delivery fee" must be stated before the guest confirms.
Foodics and your POS
QuickWA integrates with Foodics, the Saudi-founded restaurant POS, so order-created and order-ready events can send WhatsApp messages automatically. However, Foodics' own website and careers page list offices in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan and Kuwait and do not mention Qatar, so most Qatari restaurants will not be on it. If you run a different POS, the same automations can be wired through QuickWA's developer API and signed webhooks, Zapier, or Google Sheets for a simple order log.
Loyalty without spam
A loyalty programme on WhatsApp is mostly segmentation: who came in the last 30 days, who orders breakfast, who books for groups, who only orders in Ramadan. Use QuickWA's contacts and segments to send each group one relevant message, not the whole list every week. Ideas that work for Doha venues:
- A "visit five times, the sixth karak is on us" stamp counted from orders in the chat.
- Birthday messages to guests who shared their birthday, as marketing templates sent only to those who opted in.
- A short feedback request after a reservation, linked to the visit ("How was your dinner on Thursday?"). Meta treats a generic survey as marketing, so tie it to the guest's own booking.
- Weather-led messages: terrace season opening in November, and the first cool weekend.
Ramadan: iftar, ghabga and suhoor
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, subject to the moon sighting, with Eid al-Fitr forecast for around 10 March. For restaurants it is the busiest booking month of the year: iftar buffets, the late-evening ghabga that Qatari families and companies host, and suhoor.
- Early January: announce iftar and ghabga packages to opted-in guests and corporate clients, with a booking button, so companies planning a ghabga can lock in a date.
- From the first day: confirmations and day-of reminders as utility templates; send the reminder in the late morning, never close to iftar.
- Timing promotions: after taraweeh, roughly 9 to 11:30 PM, is when people browse. Set QuickWA's sending window to that slot for the month so scheduled broadcasts wait for it.
- Garangao (around the 14th night): sweets boxes and family offers for the children's celebration.
- Last ten nights and Eid: suhoor menus and Eid brunch bookings.
Our Qatar campaign calendar covers the rest of the year, including National Day on 18 December.
Worked Meta bills: a normal month and Ramadan
Example: a two-branch Lebanese and grill restaurant in Lusail and Al Sadd with a cloud-kitchen delivery brand. Rates are Meta's Qatar rates effective 1 October 2026; riyals at the 3.64 peg.
| Message | Normal month | Ramadan month |
|---|---|---|
| Reservation confirmations (utility, $0.012) | 1,500 = $18.00 | 3,000 = $36.00 |
| Day-of reminders (utility, $0.012) | 1,500 = $18.00 | 3,000 = $36.00 |
| Direct-order confirmations and ready/driver updates (utility, $0.012) | 4,800 = $57.60 | Included in replies below |
| Offers to the loyalty list (marketing, $0.0341) | 5,000 = $170.50 | 3 iftar/ghabga broadcasts × 4,000 = 12,000 = $409.20 |
| Staff replies (service, first 1,000 free, then $0.012) | 6,000 sent, 5,000 billed = $60.00 | 10,000 sent, 9,000 billed = $108.00 |
| Total paid to Meta | $324.10 ≈ QR 1,179.72 | $589.20 ≈ QR 2,144.69 |
In both months marketing is the biggest line: 53% of the normal bill and 69% of the Ramadan one (our arithmetic: 170.50 ÷ 324.10 and 409.20 ÷ 589.20). The levers are the usual ones: send each offer to the segment that will care, not the whole list, and use Click-to-WhatsApp ads for new guests, because messages inside the free entry-point window, which stays open for up to 7 days, cost nothing. One direct order costs about two utility messages, $0.024 (QR 0.087), which you can set against the commission you would have paid on the same order through an app.

Frequently asked questions
Which food delivery apps operate in Qatar in 2026? +
talabat, Snoonu and Keeta (which launched in Doha in August 2025) are the main ones, with local players such as Rafeeq. Deliveroo stopped operating in Qatar on 4 March 2026 after DoorDash's decision to exit the market.
Can I send promotions to customers who ordered through a delivery app? +
Not without their own consent. A number you received to fulfil a delivery-app order was collected for that delivery. Qatar's data privacy law and Meta's policy both require opt-in before marketing, so ask guests directly, for example with a QR code or a question after their booking.
Is a table reservation confirmation a marketing message? +
No. A confirmation or reminder that only states the booking details is a utility message at $0.012 to a +974 number. Adding a promotion makes it marketing at $0.0341.
Does QuickWA work with Foodics in Qatar? +
QuickWA integrates with Foodics, but Foodics does not list Qatar among its markets, so most Qatari restaurants use another POS. Those can connect through QuickWA's developer API and webhooks, Zapier or Google Sheets.
When should a Doha restaurant start promoting Ramadan iftar and ghabga? +
Around early January for a Ramadan expected to begin on about 8 February 2027, so families and companies planning a ghabga can book ahead. During Ramadan, send promotions after taraweeh and keep utility reminders to late morning.
How much does WhatsApp cost a restaurant in Qatar? +
In our example, a two-branch restaurant pays Meta about $324.10 (QR 1,179.72) in a normal month and about $589.20 (QR 2,144.69) in Ramadan. QuickWA plans start at $5/month on top, with 0% markup on Meta's fees.
